Temperature Sensor
This feature is designed for the temperature sensor, an accessory of the device that measures the temperature. This guide will walk you through the process of setting up the widget, generating a report, and configuring event alerts.
Temperature sensor widget set up
To set up the widget, navigate to the 'Maps page' select your device with the temperature sensor, and under the Telematics tab, you will find the temperature widget.
Click on the pencil icon to configure the widget.
Property - Allows the user to rename the widget to something more descriptive or meaningful for their specific application (e.g. Freezer Temperature).
Parameter value - This is where the actual temperature reading or parameter value for the sensor is entered or displayed. If this value is incorrect, it might show nothing or display an incorrect reading.
Unit - Allows you to choose the unit of measurement for the temperature reading. Celsius (°C) is the default, but it could be switched to Fahrenheit (°F) or other temperature units based on user preference.
Set value recalculation - This option allows for recalculating the temperature value if the default unit doesn’t match the desired one. It’s useful when the user wants to display the temperature in a different unit, like Fahrenheit instead of Celsius. If the sensor provides a Celsius reading, but you want to display it in Fahrenheit, you can set up a recalculation (for instance, using the formula °F = (°C × 9/5) + 32).
Set value ranges - You can define a set of ranges for the temperature output values and customize the visual presentation (e.g., using color coding and text labels) to indicate different temperature thresholds.
Decimal places - This allows you to control the precision of the temperature value shown, determining how many decimal places will be displayed in the widget (e.g., 22.35°C). For less precision, you could set it to 0 (e.g., 22°C).
Clear and set parameters from the protocol mapping - This is similar to restoring the default settings.
Click ‘Update’ and it should show the actual temperature value shortly.
Note: This is typically configured by support in advance.\
Setting Up Temperature Alert
In this section, we will set up an alert event for temperature changes. This will be helpful as you won't need to constantly monitor the screen for every temperature change; instead, you'll receive an event alert notification. You will be notified either through a pop-up notification or via email whenever there is a temperature change.
To set it up, head to the ‘Events page’. You can find a comprehensive list of events from various devices here. Next, select the ‘Show Event Templates’. This is where you will be able to create new event alerts.
Once clicked, a new panel will appear on the right side of the screen. Click on ‘Add New Template’. In the 'Create Event Template' section, you can fill out the form with details
Enter event name - Choose a name that makes it easy to recognize the alert (e.g., 'Temperature Sensor')
Event type - Only use custom.
Select Device - Select which device(s) you would like to create the alert for.
Select event parameter - In this field, it is important to select the right parameter which is similar to the temperate widget ‘sensor.temperature’. Otherwise, the alert will not generate.
Note: Event parameter may vary on devices, If unsure please ask us.
Condition - We can select a condition according to our requirements. For this example, we will select 'Greater than and/or less than'. The thresholds mean we will receive an alert when the temperature falls below '10' or rises above '20'.Check alert methods - You can also customize how you want to receive the alert, either via push notification or email, by selecting the respective checkboxes.
Text of the alert - Type any message to include in the alert that you want to receive (e.g Temperature has changed!).
Event activity period - This is the setting where the user can select the days of the week and times when the event will be active.
Minimum time - You may modify this to create an interval for the alert notifications.
Scenario - For example, you set up the alert, you can set a minimum time interval (e.g., 5 minutes) before allowing the next alert notification to appear. This helps prevent excessive alerts.
Lastly, don’t forget to click ‘Create’ and you’re all set!
Once you have created the temperature event alert, you will begin receiving notifications whenever the temperature changes according to the conditions you set earlier.
Generate a temperature sensor report
To generate, go to the reports page, and select the ‘Events report’.
Choose the device with temperature for which you want to generate the report, you may select multiple devices to generate the report at the same time.
Select Period - you can choose the date range for the report you’d like to retrieve.
Select Grouping - how you would like your report to be sorted.
Select temperature interval - depending on the input value, the temperature graph will display data points at the specified intervals (e.g., every 5 minutes). This helps keep the graph not congested and easy to read.
Click ‘Create report’ to generate. Reports can be downloadable via pdf or excel.
